The CWY Community in Indonesia reunites after 35 years
The 35th anniversary celebration of Canada World Youth Alumni in Indonesia was held on October 15th, 2010 at Ministry of Education in Senayan, Jakarta, Indonesia.
The event was organized by Mrs. Nadrah Muhammad Alhaddar, the chairperson of the Alumni association of Canada World Youth Indonesia (AACWYI) in association with other Indonesian alumni. Approximately 200 alumni attended from all over Indonesia, and they were joined by Canadians alumni that had participated in an Indonesian exchange at some point since the beginning of the CWY - Indonesia partnership that began in 1975.
The reunion was a joyous occasion filled with laughter, songs and friends reconnecting after many years. As friends reminisced, group pictures were taken and everyone tasted the sweetness in the air, or possibly that was the massive cake that was prepared for the occasion. For entertainment everyone enjoyed artistic and cultural performances presented by each generation of alumni from the 70's, 80's, 90' and 2000's.
Participants enjoyed speeches by Mr. Mirhan Tabrani a representatives from Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as CWY alumni Mr. Fasli Jalal who, since his CWY program, has become the Vice Minister of Education. His inspiring speech highlighted the value and importance of Canada World Youth in Indonesian communities.
The evening concluded with a “Photos from the past” presentation followed by group pictures being taken as friends comingled and all the alumni sang songs and danced together remembering good old days. It was a very beautiful moment for everyone especially one of the CWY alumni.
